Grammar is a set of rules that describe how a language works.
व्याकरण (Grammar) नियमों के उस संग्रह कहते हैं जिससे यह पता चलता है कि भाषा कैसे काम करती है.

These rules are general guidelines that apply for a majority portion of the language.
ये नियम व्यापक मार्गदर्शिन होते हैं जो भाषा के अधिकांश भाग पर लागू होते हैं.

With every rule that is defined you also have exceptions that deviate from the rules.
हर वह नियम जिसे परिभाषित किया गया है के साथ उस नियम को भंग करने के कई अपवाद मिलते हैं.

Grammar can be divided into two set of rules...
व्याकरण को नियमों के संग्रह में विभाजित किया जाता है.

1. The Syntax
Syntax is the set of rules that define how words are arranged to make sentences.
वाक्य-रचना (Syntax) नियमों का वह संग्रह है जिसमें यह वर्णित किया है कि वाक्य बनाने के लिये शब्दों को कैसे क्रमबद्ध करना चाहिए.

The syntax tells us why the two sentences having the same words are different in meaning.
वाक्य-रचना से हमें यह पता चलता है कि निम्न दोनो वाक्यों में वही सारे शब्द उपयुक्त होने के बावजूद इनका अर्थ अलग क्यों है.

The cat sat on the mat.
The mat sat on the cat.
2. The Morphology
Morphology is the set of rules that defines how words are changed to fit into sentences.
शब्द-रचना (Morphology) के अंतर्गत वे नियमों का समूह है जिनसे पता चलता है कि वाक्य में सम्मेलित होने के लिये शब्दों के कौनसा रूप उचित होता है.

Morphology tells us how changing the form of one word in the two sentences change the meaning.
शब्द-रचना से हमें यह पता चलता है कि निम्न वाक्यों में एक शब्द की रचना में बदलाव से कैसे दोनों वाक्यों का अर्थ बदल जाता है.

The cat sat on the mat.
The cat sits on the mat.
