Depending on the type of singular noun different rules apply for determining the plural form.
Singular शब्द के रूप के अनुसार अलग-अलग नियमों के तहत उसका plural रूप तैयार किया जा सकता है.

Below are some rules for formation of plurals. Keep in mind that there are exceptions to every rule and they must also be understood.
 Plural बनाने के कुछ नियम नीचे दिये गये हैं. नियमों को समझते समय ध्यान में रखें कि हर नियम के अपवाद हैं और उनको भी समझना जरूरी है.

1. Add an s - s लगा कर
The most common way to form a plural is to...
बहुवचन बनाने का सबसे प्रचलित तरीका है...
  • add an s at the end of the word.
    शब्द के अंत में s जोड़ा जाता है.

shop का shops
friend का friends

2. Add es - es लगा कर
  • But, when the singular word ends in s or x then we add es.
    लेकिन जब Singular रूप का आखरी अक्षर s, sh या x हो तब es लगाया जाता है.

  • We add es to some words that end with ch.
    कुछ ch से खत्म होने वाले शब्दों में भी es लगाकर plural रूप तैयार होता है.

  • es is also added to most words ending with an o
    अधिकंश o से खत्म होने वाले Singular शब्दों का भी plural रूप es लगाकर ही तैयार होता है.

3. replace f and fe with ves - f और fe के स्थान पर ves लगा कर
  • In many cases, when the singular form ends if f or fe, then they are replaced by ves to get its plural form.
    बहुत बार जब Singular रूप का आखरी अक्षर f या fe होता है तब ves लगा कर उसका Plural बनाया जाता है.

4. replace y with ies - y के स्थान पर ies लगा कर
  • But, when the singular form ends in y then ies is used to get the plural form.
    लेकिन जब Singular रूप का आखरी अक्षर y हो तब ies लगाया जाता है.

party का parties

There are some words ending with y that add s to form the plural.
y से समाप्त होने वाले कुछ ऐसे शब्द भी हैं जिनका बहुवचन रूप पाने के लिए s लगाया जाता है.

5. change vowels inside the word - शब्द के अंदर के वॉवल (vowel) को बदल कर.
  • In some singular words, their vowels are changed to get the plural form.
    कुछ एकवचन शब्द ऐसे भी हैं जिनका बहुवचन बनाने के लिये बीच के वॉवल (vowels) को बदला जाता है.

6. singular and plural are the same - कोई बदलाव नहीं होता
  • There are some words that use the same form for both singular and plural.
    कुछ शब्द ऐसे भी हैं जिनका एकवचन और बहुवचन रूप एक ही है. वाक्य में उपयोग से ही पता चलता है कि वह singular है या plural है.

7. used in plural form - बहुवचन रूप में उपयोग
  • Some nouns are always used in their plural forms only.
    कुछ संज्ञाओं को हमेशा उनके बहुवचन रूप में ही उपयोग में लाया जाता है.

8. plural forms used in singular - बहुवचन रूप का उपयोग एकवचन में
  • Then, there are some nouns whose plural forms are used as singular.
    फिर, कुछ संज्ञा भी हैं जिनके बहुवचन रूप का ही उपयोग एकवचन में किया जाता है.

When used as singular they take a singular verb.
जब इन्हें को एकवचन रूप में उपयोग किया जाता है तब क्रिया भी एकवचन रूप में होना चाहिए.
9. singular forms that represent many - एकवचन रूप जो एनेक दर्शाता है.
  • Some nouns appear to be singular but represent a group of persons, animals or things.
    कुछ संज्ञा दिखते तो एकवचन हैं पर वे एनेक व्यक्तिओं, प्राणियों या वस्तुओं को दर्शाते हैं.

poultry team
Such nouns are known as collective nouns.
ऐसे संज्ञओं को समूहवाचक संज्ञा (collective nouns) कहते हैं.
10. words of other languages - दूसरी भाषाओं के शब्द
  • Words from other languages like Latin, Greek, Hindi, French etc follow the rules of that language to make plurals.
    अन्य भाषा जैसे लैटिन, ग्रीक, हिंदी, फ्रन्च आदि के शब्दों के बहूवचन शब्द बनाने के लिए उसके मूल भाषा के नियमों का पालन किया जाता है.
