To end a sentence
The full stop (.) is the greatest pause and indicates the end of an imperative or a declarative sentence.
पूर्ण विराम सबसे बड़ा विराम होता है. इस के उपयोग से imperative और declarative वाक्यों के अंत का संकेत मिलता है.

The sentence could be simple with just one word, a verb; or a compound sentence with any number of clauses.
वक्य एक सरल एक शब्द, एक क्रिया, का हो सकता या कई उप-वाक्य मिलाकर बना एक संयुक्त वाक्य हो सकता है.
To mark abbreviations
The full stop has also been traditionally used in abbreviations, but now-a-days this use of the full stop has become optional.
पारमपरिक तौर पर पूर्ण विराम का उपयोग संक्षिप्त शब्दों के बाद भी किया जाता रहा है, पर आज कल इस उपयोग को अनिवार्य नहीं माना जाता.

When a sentence ends with an acronym that has a full stop, then another full stop is not added to mark the end of sentence.
जब किसी वाक्य के अंत में कोई ऐसा लगु-रूप है जिसके बाद पूर्ण विराम हो तब उस वाक्य का अंत करने के लिए एक और पूर्ण विराम नहीं लगाया जाता.

To mark decimals
The full stop are used in numbers to mark the separation between numbers and the decimal values.
पूर्ण विराम का उपयोग संख्या में किया जाता. इसका उपयोग पूर्ण संख्या और दशमलव मान के बीच अंतर दर्शाता है.

The full stop are used between the hour and minute portions of time.
